The 2026 National Athletics season was officially set in motion as CoSACSA President, Aubrey Mposula, opened the Sakhiwo Zuma Track & Field Championship at the Green Point Athletics Stadium in Cape Town. The prestigious event, took place from 19 to 22 April 2026, brought together student-athletes from nine provinces, all competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics.
Representing the province with pride, Team Eastern Cape delivered a strong and determined performance from the very first day. Despite challenging weather conditions, including persistent rain, the team demonstrated resilience, powering through their events with confidence and focus. Their efforts were evident across both track and field disciplines, where athletes showcased speed, strength and unwavering determination.
As the competition progressed into Day 2, the intensity heightened across multiple field events, including long jump, high jump, shot put and javelin. Athletes from across the country displayed exceptional talent but the Eastern Cape team continued to stand out, competing fiercely against some of the best provincial teams in the country.
The championship not only highlighted athletic excellence but also embodied unity, sportsmanship and the spirit of student development within the TVET sector. Appreciation is extended to all athletes for their outstanding performances and to the officials whose dedication ensured the smooth running of the event.
Team Eastern Cape’s commendable showing on the national stage reflects the strength and potential of the province’s athletes. Gratitude is also extended to the Western Cape for hosting a successful and memorable championship.
As the competition concludes, the performances witnessed at Green Point Athletics Stadium mark an inspiring chapter in the journey of these student-athletes, setting a high standard for future national competitions.
